“Intimidated” is a lot of things. This “I’m a Slave 4 U” B-side starts out with explosions and clangs that seem to be emitted from some digitized factory, which gives way to synth effects that sound like they could have come from the soundtrack of a Super Nintendo game. Modulating tempos throughout, it’s almost as if Spears (who co-wrote the track) wanted to keep the listener off balance. She vacillates between fembot in the verses to sweet girl next door in the bridge. The track is bizarre, but entertaining. And, lest we forget which superstar is singing the track, she spells out her name in the middle eight. Always a solid pop song ploy.
