(Spears, Michaels, Tranter, Monson) Album: Glory
Glory was in several ways a reset after the disappointing Britney Jean era. And Spears kicked off Glory in a similar way to Britney Jean, creating another ethereal mid-tempo ballad opener for the album. The song is a showcase for her falsetto range, her vocals gliding over the soft, pulsing electro beat. Whereas the majority of her albums kick off with her (usually high-octane) lead singles, the purpose of “Invitation” was a tone-setting introduction. Though clearly not a single, it’s one of her most effective album openers that set us up for a return-to-form album with lush production, strong vocals, and high-quality pop songs.
