Album: Femme Fatale
For such a high-octane album, it’s interesting that a song called “Gasoline” is actually one of Femme Fatale’s tamer cuts. The strength of this pun-heavy song resides in its chorus, where Spears’s voice hums like an engine revving: “Spark, and it’s like gasoline/I start purring like a machine.” The post-chorus “You set me on fire” in Spears’s trademark falsetto is a bit repetitive and it’s not nearly as immediate or infectious as “Trouble for Me.” But is definitely better than your average filler.
