Album: Oops!... I Did It Again
This mid-tempo track was apparently supposed to be the fifth and final single from Oops!... I Did It Again. Spears was even rumored to have filmed a video for “When Your Eyes Say It” that was ultimately discarded – which has yet to be verified. It would have been an interesting choice as a single. It is competent if unremarkable. The spoken intro, an early example of what would become a Britney trademark, somehow doesn’t land as well here. The slow hip hop beat combined with strings makes for a nice atmosphere, but this feels like a song that doesn’t go anywhere. Spears was vocal about her excitement to work with Diane Warren, known for penning several iconic songs – especially ballads. Perhaps this is why it was considered for possible single release. Otherwise, it’s not particularly noteworthy.
