(Spears, Moby, Stewart, Magnet)
Album: In the Zone
A conventional pop track “Early Mornin’” is not. In fall of 2003 when describing her upcoming album in interviews, Spears described In the Zone as “more vibey” and less pop. “Early Mornin’” certainly fits the bill there. Britney has co-writing credits and it was produced by fellow co-writer Moby. With its floating bassline backed with strings, Spears talk-sings about a particularly eventful night out at the club. Filled with moans, purrs and even a yawn, there is definitely a specific vibe being attained. It seems like something Janet Jackson might have recorded – perhaps of the Velvet Rope era? This track is definitely a grower but fits in thematically with the rest of the album and remains one of Spears’s more adventurous cuts.
