An appropriate reaction to …Baby One More Time’s fourth track is: “WTF?!” It’s bubblegum, it’s dancehall, it’s ridiculous, and it’s an undeniably catchy bop. Co-writer Mikey Bassie lent some supporting vocals to the track, and Spears’s own vocals are strong and melismatic, sounding even a bit Aguilera-esque. Targeted squarely toward the tween fanbase, it may feel a bit cutesy for some listeners. But teen pop has rarely been this fun. “Soda Pop” also has the distinct honor of being featured on the 1999 soundtrack to Pokémon: The First Movie.
